I’ve seen this firsthand – you’re chasing down an anomaly, the application logs look clean, the cloud provider’s logs seem normal, but your gut tells you something’s off.
The network doesn’t lie, though. Network-level telemetry captures what actually happened, not what various systems think happened or bothered to log. It’s like having a security camera that can’t be turned off or have its footage “accidentally” deleted. When cloud logs fall short due to configuration drift, incomplete coverage, or just plain old logging fatigue, network data gives you that ground truth.
This reminds me why we still need multiple layers of visibility. Cloud-native doesn’t mean cloud-only when it comes to monitoring.

But the keyword here is “if” – we’ve seen plenty of security AI tools that promise the moon and deliver… well, let’s just say they deliver something less stellar.
React2Shell Exploits Hit NGINX Servers
Now here’s something that should grab your attention if you’re running NGINX anywhere in your infrastructure. Datadog Security Labs discovered an active campaign exploiting React2Shell (CVE-2025-55182) to hijack web traffic through compromised NGINX servers.
The attackers are specifically targeting NGINX installations and management panels like Baota, then routing traffic through their own infrastructure. With a CVSS score of 10.0, React2Shell is as serious as vulnerabilities get. What’s particularly concerning is that this isn’t just theoretical – it’s being actively exploited in the wild.
If you’re managing NGINX servers, especially with web-based management panels, this needs to be on your immediate patch list. Traffic hijacking attacks can be incredibly subtle, and users might not even realize their connections are being intercepted.
OpenClaw: When AI Agents Go Rogue
Here’s a perfect example of why we can’t just throw AI at problems without thinking through the security implications. The SANS Internet Storm Center reported on OpenClaw (also known as clawdbot or moltbot), a new AI agent framework designed to automate office work.
The tool went viral, but not for the right reasons. According to SANS, it’s riddled with security oversights in its design. This is exactly what I worry about with the rush to deploy AI agents – everyone’s so focused on what these tools can do that they forget to ask whether they should do it, or how to do it safely.
AI agents that interact with messaging systems and other office tools have access to sensitive information and can take actions on behalf of users. When the security design is an afterthought, you’re basically giving attackers a new attack surface with elevated privileges.

In somewhat related news, French prosecutors raided X’s offices in Paris as part of their cybercrime investigation. Elon Musk and X’s former CEO have been summoned for voluntary interviews in April.
While the details are still emerging, this highlights how platform security and content moderation failures can escalate to criminal investigations. It’s a reminder that security isn’t just about preventing breaches – it’s about the broader responsibility platforms have for how their systems are used and abused.
The Bigger Picture
What strikes me about this week’s news is how it illustrates the complexity of modern security challenges. We’re dealing with cloud visibility gaps, AI tools that promise to solve our problems while potentially creating new ones, active exploitation of critical vulnerabilities, and the intersection of cybersecurity with broader social and legal issues.
